Access for disabled persons

Yes, we consider everyone!

In 2010, the Train Thur Doller Alsace inaugurated a “Voiture Tout Public” (carriage for the general public), providing easy access to the train for people with reduced mobility.

The car was officially inaugurated in the presence of its first godmother, Béatrice Hess, Olympic champion (four gold medals at the 1984 New York Paralympic Games, six at the 1996 Atlanta Games) and Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.

The other patron is Patrizia Gubiani, former director of the Maison départementale des personnes handicapées du Haut-Rhin.

Not forgetting our Honorary Chairman René Schneider, who said “thank you on behalf of all those to whom you give a moment of joy and happiness on this train”.

Sponsors include the Alsace Region, the Haut-Rhin General Council, the Guebwiller Lions Club, the Caisse d’Épargne, and the Société d’entraide des membres de la Légion d’honneur.

Current president Romain Tricot was joined by the mayor of Sentheim, Bernard Hirth, who highlighted the work of the volunteers, thanks to whom “history is on the move, and it won’t stop!”

Thanks to the motorized hatch, Béatrice Hess was able to climb into the car easily and appreciate its functional fittings. Together with Patrizia Gubiani, she unveiled the commemorative plaque, then tossed the bottle of champagne onto the car, to the applause of a large audience.

The general purpose car is divided into two areas:

  • a semi-open compartment with a capacity of 10 seats and around 5 wheelchair spaces;
  • a closed compartment with a capacity of 14 seats and around 7 wheelchair spaces.
